Court approves closure of Department of Education - U.S.

The US Supreme Court lifted the ban on the Donald Trump administration's attempts to dissolve the Department of Education. This was reported by Qalampir.uz, citing ABC News.

Prior to this, a Massachusetts federal judge had prohibited the Trump administration from taking further steps to close the ministry. However, now the Supreme Court has rejected this ban.

According to the publication, this decision will allow the Trump administration to continue mass layoffs at the Department of Education. As a result of these dismissals, the ministry's staff was reduced by almost half.

Minister of Education Linda McMahon, commenting on the decision, said that the number of employees in the agency will be reduced and "work will continue on returning education to the state."

"Today, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that the US President, as the head of the executive branch, has the highest authority in making decisions regarding the staffing, organizational structure, and daily activities of federal agencies," said McMahon.

He also called the decision a "victory" and said it was "sad" that the Supreme Court was forced to intervene, as it prevented Trump from implementing reforms that would allow him to fulfill his promises to the Americans who elected him president.

However, the head of the US National Parents Union, Carey Rodriguez, sharply criticized the Supreme Court's decision.

"The Supreme Court prioritized politics over the Constitution and, as a result, jeopardized the future of millions of American students. This decision paves the way for President Trump's shameful and illegal attempts to dismiss the US Department of Education without any Congressional approval," said Rodriguez.

According to the publication, the Supreme Court's decision is Trump's next, albeit temporary, achievement in reforming the federal government.
