On January 23, classes in Almaty schools and colleges were canceled in the first shift - educational institutions worked as reception points for residents at night. This was reported by Daryo.uz with reference to "Nur.kz".
Kindergartens work as usual, visits to kindergartens are carried out at the request of parents, the department noted.
Two earthquakes were felt in Almaty during the night. On the morning of January 23, residents of the city felt a strong tremor of 2 points, the press service of the Department of Emergency Situations of the Almaty region reported on the Telegram channel. According to the department, the epicenter of the 5.8-magnitude earthquake was located on the border between China and Kyrgyzstan. The force of the earthquake was also felt in Uzbekistan.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 5.7. The earthquake occurred in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. After 40 minutes, a new earthquake of 4.9 magnitude began in the same area, and after 17 minutes, a second earthquake of the same magnitude occurred. Also, at approximately 00:07 (05:07 Tashkent time), a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern regions of Kazakhstan.
According to the information of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic, within an hour the residents of Almaty felt another 2-3 earthquake. The department urged people to get out. Later, the department reported that there were no reports of casualties or damage in Almaty.
