The use of phones in schools is completely banned - South Korea
The South Korean parliament passed a law prohibiting the use of mobile phones and smart devices during lessons. This was reported by UzA.
This procedure will come into force in March 2026 and will apply to all schools throughout the country. The goal of the new practice is to reduce the prevalence of "online" addiction among young people.
Studies have shown that excessive use of phones negatively affects reading, mental development, and social adaptation. Therefore, deputies, parents, and many teachers and students emphasize the need to increase attention to lessons and restore values such as friendship and creative activity.
During the parliamentary vote, this law was adopted by a majority of votes. According to government data, almost a quarter of the population uses phones excessively, while among young people this figure has reached 43%.
Nevertheless, the ban is also causing various debates. Naturally, parents want their children to spend their time studying and acquiring life experience, not on social networks.
Students say that the ban does not solve the problem and, on the contrary, emphasize the importance of forming a culture of rational use of phones.
This formal disciplinary rule completely prohibits the use of phones during lessons, but a special device for people with disabilities is permitted and can be used for emergency or educational purposes.
There are also different opinions among teachers: some say that restriction helps restore order in the lesson process, while others emphasize that it is a restriction of personal rights.
South Korea is not the first country to make such a decision - France, Finland, Italy, and China have also restricted the use of phones in schools. Only Seoul differs in raising the issue to the level of law.
At the same time, the debate about what the result will be continues: some say this is a beneficial step for students, while others link the root of the problem to the country's education system being too competitive and students being under psychological pressure.
