Schools with few students are closing - India
It is known that India is the country with the largest education system in the world, encompassing millions of students and millions of teachers.
For example, according to official statistics, there are currently about 1.5 million schools operating in India, in which about 250 million students study, and the number of teachers working in the school is more than 10 million.
However, despite the high demand for schools in India due to its large population, some schools with few students are being closed.
For example, in the Indian city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, school bells have ceased ringing one after another over the past two years. Because currently, about 20 city schools have been closed by the city authorities. The reason for this is that the number of students in ordinary classrooms is less than the established amount.
According to reports, most of the closed schools were institutions teaching in Marathi and Urdu, providing a single education opportunity for children from low-income families.
"At the moment, the children have been transferred to other schools, but these schools are far from their place of residence. Many parents do not have the opportunity to pay for private schools," says education activist Manish Narawade.
Representatives of the public and residents of India are concerned about another figure: if a few years ago there were 82 urban schools in the city, today their number has dropped to 50.
The city authorities, on the one hand, are promoting schools under the Indian National Board of Education (CBSE) system, and on the other hand, are closing schools that teach in traditional local languages. This is causing sharp criticism from the public.
"Neither the system nor the teachers are trying to save these schools. If at least a few schools reopen, hundreds of children won't be disconnected from their education," said Narawade.
Officials stated, "This is a matter of policy," "Schools with fewer than 20 students should be closed. Efforts are being made to place all children in nearby schools." Also, the city education departments explain the closure of schools with special government instructions.
