According to the results of a study conducted in 2024 by the Commissioner for Children's Rights (Children's Ombudsman) together with the National Guard of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 25% of schools in the republic are located in areas close to highways, and it was emphasized that it is around them that there is a high risk of traffic accidents with children.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the fact that 1,073 traffic accidents involving minors occurred in 2024 also requires more systematic and targeted measures in this area. Therefore, within the framework of the cooperation provided for by law, the Children's Ombudsman submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers the issue of the need to pay serious attention to the organization of comfortable and safe conditions in front of schools to protect children from road accidents when attending school.

As a result, unregulated pedestrian crossings in front of schools in the risk group, registered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, were changed to 198 high pedestrian crossings and equipped with 655 additional road signs.

It should be recalled that at a press conference held today at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications with the participation of the leadership and responsible employees of the Road Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was noted that out of about 10,000 schools in Uzbekistan, 3,500 are located on dangerous roads, which is one of the factors contributing to the increase in the number of accidents involving children.

Officials reported that the number of accidents involving children in the country in 2024 decreased by 3% compared to 2023.
