Officials of the District Education Department Found to Have Embezzled 1 Billion UZS in Budget Funds

A financial violation involving budget funds allocated for the heating systems of educational institutions has been uncovered in Davlatabad District, Namangan Region.

A pre-investigation inquiry conducted by the Namangan Regional Department of the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office found that responsible officials of the Davlatabad District Department of Preschool and School Education, together with other individuals, acted in collusion and embezzled 1 billion UZS in budget funds.

It was established that a contract had been concluded for the supply of heating boilers to educational institutions in the district. Under the terms of the contract, “ABS” brand heating boilers were supposed to be purchased for the educational institutions. However, in practice, “LES” brand heating boilers were purchased instead of the products specified in the contract.

As a result, according to preliminary calculations, budget funds amounting to 1 billion UZS were misappropriated through embezzlement or misappropriation.

A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident under Article 167 of the Criminal Code — “Theft through misappropriation or embezzlement.” Investigative proceedings are currently underway as part of the criminal case.
