Will school uniform be mandatory from the new academic year?

If you remember, 7 years ago, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to introduce a unified school uniform in the republic in order to ensure social equality among students.

After that, on August 15, 2018, the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 666 on a single school uniform was adopted, and the forms of school uniforms were approved. According to this decision, from the 2018-2019 academic year, students will come in school uniforms on a voluntary basis, and from the 2022-2023 academic year, it was determined that it will be fully implemented.

Later, in May 2019, Saida Mirziyoyeva, who worked as the deputy director of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications at that time, emphasized that attention should be paid to other problems in schools rather than compulsory school uniforms, saying that it is still too early to require compulsory school uniforms.

After that, on June 18, 2019, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted Resolution No. 509 that the uniform will be introduced not from the 2019-2020 academic year, but from the 2024-2025 academic year.

On May 19, 2022, by the government's decision No. 271, it was decided that school uniforms will be mandatory from the 2022-2023 academic year, not from the 2024-2025 academic year.

After that, the introduction of school uniforms by parents and the general public caused various objections.

Taking into account the objections of the public, the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated October 3, 2022 No. 558 officially abolished the requirement to introduce a uniform school uniform in approved forms for students in state general secondary education institutions from the 2022/2023 academic year.

That is, a single school uniform will be introduced gradually. The last decision did not specify a specific deadline for the introduction of school uniforms.

Therefore, a single school uniform will not be mandatory from the academic year. However, in accordance with the "Improved Model Code of Conduct of the General Educational Institution," students are prohibited to come in the clothes and appearance prohibited by the charter of the educational institution, including boys in shorts, T-shirts, slippers, and girls in short, narrow and revealing body thin (hairy) clothes, and wear various jewelry on their neck and fingers.
