В Кении в школьном пожаре погибли 17 учеников
Seventeen students were killed in a fire at an elementary boarding school in central Kenya.
"We lost 17 students in the fire, and 14 were injured. Our team is currently at the scene," officials said.
It was revealed that the fire had burned the students beyond recognition. Authorities have now cordoned off the school.
The country's President, William Ruto, announced that he has instructed the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this horrific incident and assured that those responsible will be held accountable.
For context, in recent years, Kenya has experienced a number of school fires, with most of them being caused by arson. Notably, a fire that occurred in the dormitory of Kyanguli Secondary School near Nairobi in 2001 claimed the lives of 58 students. In 2012, eight students died in a school in Homa Bay County in western Kenya due to the same cause.
