Did you know there was a school on the continent of Antarctica?

The Antarctic continent is a remote area covered with ice and snow. Many people think of it as a place where no one can live. However, while the continent does not have a permanent population, the researchers and their families live temporarily. There are even schools in this area.

Antrakti has the only school on the continent, with an enrollment of 15-20 students. The educational institution has textbooks on mathematics, natural science, language arts, and geography, climate of the continent, as well as scientific research conducted here.

The school is organized by the research stations there. In rare cases, the number of schools may increase by several. That is, the stations are organized according to the distance between them.

Teachers are often the spouses or partners of researchers with the necessary qualifications.  The school does not operate permanently. The station will be closed due to deteriorating weather conditions and the departure of employees and children during the winter.

For example, during the winter months, the air temperature on the continent drops to -60 °C, creating dangerous conditions for life. During this time, research station employees and their families leave the area, resulting in temporary school closures.

In the summer months, on the contrary, the population increases. During this period, the population of Antarctica can reach 5,000, while in winter it drops to 1,000. Thus, schools operate mainly during the summer season.

Antarctic schools are a vivid example of a person's desire to live and learn even in the most difficult conditions. These schools demonstrate not only the specifics of education, but also the organization of human life on the continent. Although these schools are small and seasonal, they have managed to create a unique learning environment for children.
