For the second time, Uzbekistan will participate in the International Student Assessment Program (PISA). Uzbekistan first joined the PISA study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2022.

PISA tests are conducted to determine how well schoolchildren are mastering the skills to analyze, draw conclusions, and communicate events that are needed in real life, and how well the education system is adapting to these changes.

The PISA 2025 study assessed the ability to use the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students from over 80 countries in three areas of literacy: reading, mathematics, and science.

According to the source of Xalqtaliminfo.uz, an order of the Minister of Preschool and School Education was signed to approve the number of schools participating in the PISA 2025 study.

According to the data, a total of 233 educational institutions participated in the PISA 2025 study, including 17 Presidential and specialized schools, 4 private schools, 1 boarding school, 1 military musical academic lyceum, 1 republican school for training in Olympic and Paralympic sports, and 209 general secondary schools.

When comparing the number of schools participating in the PISA 2025 study by region, we see that the proportion of schools in Tashkent (52) is the highest compared to other regions, while the proportion of schools in the Syrdarya region (4%) is lower.

The number of schools participating in the PISA 2025 study by region is as follows

  • 52 from Tashkent;

  • 23 from Samarkand region;

  • 21 from Namangan region;

  • 21 from Fergana region;

  • 20 from Kashkadarya region;

  • 19 from Andijan region;

  • 15 from Tashkent region;

  • 12 from the Khorezm region;

  • 15 from Surkhandarya region;

  • Republic of Karakalpakstan - 11;

  • 10 from Bukhara region;

  • 10 from Jizzakh region;

  • 4 from Syrdarya region.

For reference: the number of schools participating in the PISA study from each country is determined based on international requirements. At least 2% of the total number of schools from the country participating in the study should participate. In addition, 150 schools and 6,000 students are designated as the minimum number of participants.

As can be seen from the above data, it is planned that 2.29% of educational institutions in Uzbekistan will participate in the PISA 2025 study.
