On some platforms, measures to protect children from harmful content are being strengthened.
Meta is strengthening safety measures for children and adolescents. The company prohibits young people under 16 from using the app's "Live Broadcast" function on Instagram without parental permission.
In addition, Meta is expanding security measures for teenagers under 18 to the platforms Facebook and Messenger.
Also, teenagers will not be able to disable the feature that blurs images with illegal content in their personal messages without adult permission.
Meta claims that 54 million teenagers under the age of 18 worldwide have used Instagram accounts. At the same time, more than 90% of those aged 13 to 15 retained their standard restrictions.
This announcement was made in connection with the UK's implementation of the "Online Security Act."
For reference: According to the Law enacted in the UK, since March of this year, every website and app covering more than 100,000 services, from Facebook, Google, and X to Reddit and OnlyFans, must take measures to stop the emergence of illegal content, such as sexual violence against children, fraud, and terrorism, or remove it if it enters the network, within the framework of UK law.
The law also includes provisions to protect children from harm and requires technology platforms to protect minors from harmful content such as suicide and self-harm.
