New Zealand also plans to ban social networks for children.
New Zealand plans to ban children under 16 from using social networks.
It became known that the country's parliament intends to consider a bill restricting the use of social networks for teenagers.
According to the decree, children under 16 will be prohibited from using social networks, and companies like Facebook and TikTok will be obligated to verify users' ages.
A similar document has already entered into force in Australia, and New Zealand National Party deputy Catherine Wedd proposed introducing this law into the country's parliament based on the example of the neighboring country. Some party members supported this initiative, but other officials remained neutral.
According to Prime Minister Christopher Laxon, excessive use of social networks negatively affects adolescents, causing them stress, bullying, and self-esteem problems.
It is not yet known when the discussion of the bill in parliament will begin. The report on the impact of social networks on the minds of young people is expected to be ready by early 2026.
