The highest number of cases of drug addiction among young people in Uzbekistan is recorded in Tashkent. In the capital, there is also an increase in cases of synthetic drug use among students.
Tashkent city remains the region with the highest number of reported cases of drug addiction and substance abuse among young people in Uzbekistan. This was announced by Durdona Rakhimova, the deputy mayor of Tashkent, in an interview with journalists after the international event on combating drug abuse and drug-related crimes held in Tashkent on November 15, as reported by Gazeta.uz.
Currently, according to official statistics, there are 473,000 young men and women aged 18-30 in Tashkent, of whom 6,000 are considered high-risk youth. Durdona Rakhimova noted that 373 of these 6,000 people are chronically addicted to drugs and use psychotropic substances.
According to Durdona Rakhimova, the number of cases involving synthetic drug use among students in Tashkent is also increasing.
"Unfortunately, there are school students who use psychotropic substances, and this cannot be denied. Considering the social danger of this problem, I believe that we should not shy away from identifying it. For this purpose, various raids are being conducted in schools, and preventive measures are being carried out with 10th and 11th grade students and their parents. In cooperation with higher educational institutions, efforts have been initiated to identify such cases among university students," she said.
According to the deputy mayor, preventive measures are also being taken to increase attention to students living in dormitories, establishing constant monitoring of their timely return to dormitories in the evening and ensuring they complete their studies.
