A former PIMA employee became the director of the Center for Science Olympiads

As you know, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 30, 2024 No. PP-346 "On measures to further improve the system of work with talented youth," starting from January 1, 2025, the Center of Science Olympiads will be established under the Agency of Specialized Educational Institutions in the form of a state institution.

Turaboy Shermatov, who previously worked as the head of the Department for Assessment and Monitoring of the Quality of Education of the Agency of Specialized Educational Institutions, was appointed as the director of the newly created Center for Science Olympiads.

It is interesting that although the Presidential Decree No. PP-346 established the establishment of the Center of Science Olympiads from January 1, 2025, this appointment was made a month ago, on November 20, 2024.

The order on the appointment of T. Shermatov was carried out by the order of the director of the Agency for Specialized Educational Institutions.

T. Shermatov worked as a teacher of physics and mathematics at the center of continuous education of INHA University in Tashkent, junior researcher at the Institute of Ion-Plasma and Laser Technologies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, deputy director of the specialized school named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi for special subjects, executive director of the Presidential school in Tashkent.

How did the previous system work?

Prior to the establishment of the Center for Science Olympiads, the Department of Physical Olympiads and Selection of Gifted Students of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education was responsible for organizing Olympiads and preparing talented youth for international Olympiads.

The structure of the department consisted of 3 departments and 1 department, which consisted of the department for organizing the Olympiads, the department for preparing talented youth for international Olympiads and ensuring the participation of the national team, the department for preparing control materials and the department for determining the prospects of specialized schools.

This department was headed by Rakhmonov Umid Olimovich, who had been working in the ministry since 2019. According to unconfirmed information, Umid Rakhmonov has left his job.

Umid Rakhmonov was one of the talented personnel who had done significant work in the field of the Olympiads. For example, if we analyze the achievements of Uzbek students in various Olympiads between 2021 and 2024, we can observe a multiple increase in the number of medals. During this period, our students demonstrated even higher results in prestigious competitions and further enhanced Uzbekistan's prestige on the international stage.

For example, in the 2021/2022 academic year, students won a total of 45 medals at prestigious international and regional Olympiads, in the 2022/2023 academic year - 69 medals, and in the 2023/2024 academic year - 128 medals. And, of course, Umid Rakhmonov's contribution to these results is great.
