The pilot phase of the PIRLS 2026 study will begin in April

As a result of the PIRLS study, the knowledge of the primary school student, the level of understanding of the text read, and the ability to think on this basis are analyzed.
The PIRLS study has been conducted every five years since 2001. So far, it has been held five times - in 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021. It is planned that 61 countries will participate in the next stage, which will take place in 2026.
The international study PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) was organized by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA).
It was announced that pilot testing of the PIRLS 2026 study will be conducted in 30 schools in Uzbekistan in April-May.
This was stated at the "Minister's Hour" held on April 11 of this year under the chairmanship of the Minister of Preschool and School Education, Hilola Umarova.
Responsible officials were instructed to create all conditions for conducting the PIRLS 2026 survey in 30 selected schools and to provide each school with an additional 3 computers per student.
As a reminder, Uzbek students participated in the PIRLS 2021 study for the first time, ranking 49th among 57 countries.
Singapore took first place, Ireland - second, and Hong Kong - third.
For information, the CIS countries also participated in this prestigious study, with Russia ranking 4th, Kazakhstan 38th, Georgia 41st, and Azerbaijan 48th.
