In Russia, teachers' bonuses are directed to military expenses
In the Irkutsk region of Russia, the prize money of teachers, educators and employees of cultural institutions will be spent for the needs of the war against Ukraine. This was reported by Daryo.uz, citing a source in The Moscow Times.
It is noted that a conference was held at the end of October, at which regional officials announced that they would withhold part of the incentive payments.
"They said that there was not enough money for air defense systems, there were no security cushions, everything was spent," said an interviewer of the publication.
Incentive payments are calculated separately for each employee and can range from 10 to 40 thousand rubles. The publication's interlocutor clarified that the payments were divided into three months at the end of the year.
"We received the money for two months, but not for the third. It was directed to the needs of the army," the woman said.
The educator of the kindergarten in the Slyudyansky district of the region said that she and her colleagues "already voluntarily collected funds and humanitarian aid for the military," but now, regardless of their will, some of the prize money was directed to the military in the war.
At the end of October, students at the Belgorod State Institute of Arts and Culture were forced to submit a thousand rubles. By the end of September 2024, thousands of students and teachers from more than 500 universities of the country joined the "HEIs for the Front" campaign.
According to the estimates of The Moscow Times, Russia spends about 210 billion rubles per week on the war in Ukraine.
