Gulnara Karimova's confiscated funds will be used for the repair of rural schools.
20 million dollars of Gulnara Karimova's confiscated money in Switzerland will be allocated to improve educational opportunities. This was reported by Gazeta.uz.
The project envisages the repair of 45 rural schools, providing them with safe water, modern sanitation, reliable heating systems, and environmentally friendly energy.
On September 17 of this year, the "Ishonch" Foundation announced the allocation of 20 million US dollars for the project "Modeling Climate Change Resistance and Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SSG) in Schools." The project will officially begin its work on October 1, 2025.
It is noted that the project provides for the repair of at least 45 rural schools in Uzbekistan, providing safe water, modern sanitation, reliable heating systems, and environmentally friendly energy to reduce energy consumption in schools by 30 percent and CO emissions by 50 percent.
The project will directly improve the daily educational conditions for 31,500 children, especially adolescent girls. They will have access to gender-sensitive special amenities, which will reduce the number of missed classes.
To ensure the sustainability of the project's outcomes, 2,700 school teachers and staff will be trained on climate resilience, gender-responsive approaches to WFP, and public engagement in processes.
"Switzerland is proud that the funds of this restitution are being transformed into significant, corruption-free investments that bring direct benefits to the people of Uzbekistan. "Through this project, we are creating opportunities for 31,500 children to receive education in a healthier, safer, and more decent environment - this is a true embodiment of restitution that serves development," said Swiss Ambassador Konstantin Obolensky.
The Foundation notes that the "My Best School" digital portal allows local communities and the general public to monitor the budget, contractors, construction deadlines, and progress in real time.
Also, within the framework of the project, with the participation of civil society, the Integrity Pact will be tested, which ensures fair, corruption-free procurement and repair processes and accountability to parents, teachers, and local communities.
